16th December: TV tradition

Whether it's bringing in the tree, receiving your first Christmas card or ordering your turkey, everyone has something that makes them feel like Christmas is really on its way. One of my things is seeing the Christmas editions of the TV Times and Radio Times in the shops. I'm immediately transported back to every Christmas of my childhood in my parents' living room where they would be out on the coffee table for frequent reference in the run-up to and during the Christmas break.

I know that digital television allows us to see what's coming on days in advance but I think there is something great about flicking through these magazines and circling the programmes and films that I hope not to miss. They offer the hope that not only there is going to be something great on to entertain but keeping with the theme of relaxation and hibernation from two nights ago, I might actually have the time and inclination to sit and watch it. I don't buy these publications at any other time of the year so I guess that makes it another wee tradition of mine. Now where's the pen..?
