7th December: Perfect party snacks

Hopefully you will have seen my Mrs Claus cocktail that I posted on Saturday. This recipe is the perfect accompaniment: Spiced Nuts!

I first discovered this recipe in 2009 and I have since tried a number of different versions but this one is definitely a crowd-pleaser. They are moreish to say the least!

Ingredients

350g mixed unsalted nuts (I use pecans, cashews, hazelnuts and almonds)

40g butter

1 tbsp mild tasting oil (I use local rapeseed oil)

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

1 tsp salt

A clean, sealable jar or airtight container.

Method

Pre-heat the oven (110 degrees fan/ 130 degrees conventional) whilst warming the oil and butter together in a pan. Once the butter has melted stir in the spices, Worcestershire sauce and salt. Cook for 1 minute then remove from the heat and stir in the nuts, ensuring all are coated in the mixture.

Spread the coated nuts on a non-stick baking tray and cook for 1.5 hours. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before sealing in your jar or container.

The spiced nuts keep for up to a month in the sealed container but they don't usually last that long in our house! They make lovely gifts too in pretty jars or paper bags tied with ribbon.
